St Johns reserves beat Clann Na Banna in the ACPRL Division 2 game on Sunday in Banbridge.  Earlier in the season the Banbridge men had come away from Pairc Naomh Eoin with the points after comprehensively beating the Johnnies 5-18 to 1-7.  Playing against the wind in the first half, St Johns had most of the play but found it difficult to turn this possession into scores. 

 

St Johns led by 2-1 to 0-6 at the break, all St Johns scores coming from the boot of Conor Morgan.  The first was from a free which was quickly followed by two goals, the first of which was a great individual effort followed by a great move where Anthony Doran fed Alan Henderson in the full forward line who set up the incoming Morgan to drive the ball to the net. 

 

St Johns continued to tag on the points in the second half but it wasn’t until late in the half that Cathal O’Connor was quickest to react to a Danny McKay effort which came back off the post and get the Johnnies third goal that the game was won for the visitors.  Earlier in the half the Banbridge men had two clear goal chances which were superbly kept out by Maurice McCormick on both occasions, the second being a finger tip save to touch the ball on to the crossbar.

 

Final score was Clann Na Banna 0-9 St Johns 3-7.

 

This was a great all round team performance with M McCormick in nets in superb form and all six defenders getting the better of their opponents.  Sean Kelly and Ray Addis were dominant at midfield against their opponents.  Up front the forwards combined well and took their scores when they were needed.

 

This was only the reserves third win of the season after earlier victories over Downpatrick and Longstone.  Hopefully this form can be taken into their last few games.
