St John's Minors V Clann Na Banna

Clann Na Banna 3-6 St Johns 5-11
ACMFL Division 3
Tuesday 28 June 2011
@ Banbridge

The Minors made it seven wins out of seven with a 11 point victory over a physical Banbridge side, 5-11 to 3-6.

Banbridge started the game on top dominating possession and not allowing St. John?s to get the ball forward. This resulted in Banbridge getting the first score of the game through a well taken point and a second followed shortly after. St. John?s only got into the game when a few of the older, more established players got a grip of the game around the middle and this led to free kicks being converted by Conor Gilmore and Chris McKay.

Strong running from deep from Neill Magorrian and Ryan Gordon and the work rate and passing from Hugh Flanagan and Darren Burns led to scoring for Chris McKay who won his fair share of ball at full forward which led to the first goal of the game. Banbridge got another point before S. John?s dominated the next 10 minutes resulting in a further two points from Chris McKay and a point from Darren Burns before a great team move saw the ball played into Chris McKay who turned his marker and fisted across to Darren Burns to palm to the net.

McKay then got his second goal with a well taken finish into the top corner. Banbridge got the last score of the half with a point to leave the half time score Banbridge 0-4, St. John?s 3-5.

Again, Banbridge started the half on top and quickly got back into the game with two goals within two minutes and followed this up with a point to reduce the deficit to a goal. Positional switches by the management helped tighten things up at the back and moving Chris McKay out to midfield meant another target for Darren Morgan?s kick outs.

Conor Gilmore sent over two free kicks after good tackling from Darren Burns and John Girvan forced turnovers in the Banbridge half. But Banbridge got another goal to reduce the Johnnies lead to a single point. Again the older players dragged St. John?s back into the game with scores from Hugh Flanagan and Chris McKay.

A driving run forward from Neill Magorrian set up a goal chance for John Girvan who rounded the keeper and finished. John added another goal soon after as St. John?s won the resulting kick out and Darren Burns played the ball in before John fisted it on over the keeper?s head. Conor Gilmore then got the score of the game with a well taken individual point from 30 yards out before Chris McKay got the final score of the game.

Final Score ? Banbridge 3-6, St. John?s 5-11
