St John's U-16's V Carryduff B

St Johns 3-14 Carryduff B 5-5
Section C Under 16 FL
Thursday 23 June 2011
@ Pairc Naomh Eoin

The second round of the U16 summer league took place last night at Pairc Naomh Eoin. Carryduff 'B' were the visitors in what was going to be a tight game if their first encounter was anything to go by.

St John's were looking to build on last weeks performance, but after scoring the first point of the half through Coalan Carville they conceded 3 Goals and a point to trail after 15 mins. They responded well and showed belief in their own abilities to keep going and with 2 goals from Michael Kelly, points from Conor Gilmore and Aidan Morgan St. John's got themselves back into the game. The sides traded scores coming into half time - Kevin Keenan, Aidan and Conor scoring for St John's with Carryduff getting a further 2 goals to leave the score at half-time 2-6 to 5-2.

The young Johnnies knew that to get anything from the game they had to stem the goals and up their own work rate - they believed that they could do it. Carryduff got the first 2 scores of the second half to leave 7 between the sides and this is when the Johnnies took a hold of the game. St John's got scores from Aidan and Conor to reduce the gap to 5 before carryduff scored their last point of the game to leave 6 in it.

Patrick O'Neill then calmly struck St John's 3rd goal followed by a penalty save from Neill Savage which really lifted the team who went on to score 6 unanswered points to win the match by 3 - Conor Gilmore (3), Aidan Morgan (2) and William Kelly getting the scores. The highlight of which was William's. When he and brother Colm ran from inside their own half playing 1-2's past the Carryduff defence, William then took his score from the 21.

This was again an outstanding team preformance from all 16 players on the night and they showed that the were never going to lay down and let their heads drop. The 2nd half performance was excellent with Micheal Keenan and Jerome Gordon playing well at the back. Colm Kelly again put in a great hours hard work and this rubbed off on his team mates through the second period.

In the forwards Conor Gilmore, Aidan Morgan and Micheal Kelly played well. In writing this all players deserve a mention for their efforts.
