Section 'C' of the U16 Summer league started with a well deserved 12 point victory for St Johns over near neighbours Drumaness. When the two teams played previously in the league Drumaness won by 21 points which makes St Johns performance even better.

St Johns started the game with a point to prove to themselves that they are more than capable of winning and scored the first 2 points of the game. Drumaness hit back with a goal but the young Johnnies didn't drop their heads and pushed on and worked tirelessly all over the field for the remainder of the match and got the scores their work rate created.

St Johns went in at half time leading 3-8 to 1-7, with Michael Kelly and Caolan Carville (2) getting the goals.

The team didn't rest on their laurels and knew they had the keep their high work rate going right to the end to get the result they deserved. The Johnnies push on at the start of the second half and a fourth goal scored by Kevin Keenan after great work by Francis Lynch and Aidan Morgan put him through. St Johns then tagged on further points with Conor Gilmore excelling finishing with a personal tally of 0-9.

The young Johnnies defence was excellent with all 5 Jerome, Paul, Patrick, Michael and William putting in a great hours hard work stopping Drumaness attacks on many occasions, with Neil Savage pulling off 2 point blank saves and also saving a penalty. Colm and Kevin dominated the midfield battle and the forwards were constantly on the move looking for space.

This performance gave the players and managers great satisfaction and all will now work hard to build on this starting at training on Saturday at the pitch at 7 o'clock with all players urged to be in attendance.

Well Done to all the players
